ALL ABOUT BARANGAY DULIAN

In the pre-Japanese regime period, hunting was one of the favorite pastimes of hunters in the said barangay. A group of farmers went for a hunt and surprisingly discovered a kind of tree growing abundantly and bearing sweet fruits that was later on named “Durian”. These trees became a landmark for the hunters who came from different sitios, and subsequently became their meeting place, or resting place hence the name of the Barangay.

Barangay Dulian, Upper Pasonanca is one of the 98 barangays situated in the West Coast in Zamboanga City. It is a rural barangay, located approximately 11 kilometers from the city proper and is part of the first legislative district with a total land area of approximately 679.639 km2.

POPULATION & HOUSEHOLDS

The barangay has four (4) zones which are Savana y Coco, Dulian, Bandera, and Lumbang respectively. Collectively, a total of 1,110 individuals and 235 households. Majority of residents identified themselves as Zamboangueno in which Chavacano is the prominent dialect spoken in the barangay.

AGE & SEX DISTRIBUTION

There are approximately 300 households in the barangay. However, due to the distance of some households, unfavorable weather condition, time constraint, and unavailability of some owners. The figure above shows that among the 1,110 surveyed individuals, the top three (3) age group that dominates in female population are ages 10-14 with 76 individuals, followed by ages 20-24 with 60 individuals, and ages 15-19 comes after with 53 individuals. On the other hand, the top three (3) age group that dominates in the male population are ages 14-19 with 64 individuals, ages 5-9 and 10-14 have the second highest number with 60 individuals each, and lastly ages 20-24 with 59 individuals. The given data illustrates that it is the middle age population that dominates the barangay probably due to the well-implemented family planning programs in the area as reflected by the secondary data obtained from Health Center.

SEX DISTRIBUTION

Among the 1,110 total surveyed population, 52% or 572 are male whereas 48% or 538 are female.
