Benchmarking

Today, faculty and staff from Visayas State University visited to gain insights into the unique aspects of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University-School of Medicine (ADZU-SOM) curriculum, particularly its emphasis on community-based education. ADZU-SOM integrates community exposure as a key component of its medical training, sending students to various marginalized communities to address their specific health needs. This practical approach not only equips students with essential knowledge and skills but also instills a deep sense of social responsibility.

As part of the benchmarking visit, we provided an in-depth look to the Visayas State university’s representatives at the community exposure program in Barangay Dulian, where our group has been actively engaged. Our team was selected for this showcase based on the exceptional work and outcomes we’ve achieved in this barangay.

As medical students assigned to Barangay Dulian, we’ve shared an experience that has profoundly shaped us all. From day one, we’ve been welcomed into this community, and together, we’ve worked to address the health needs of its residents. Each of us has learned lessons far beyond the classroom—lessons in compassion, resilience, and the power of human connection.

Today, we had the honor of sharing our journey with Visayas State University, who visited to learn how our school is preparing us to become future doctors. Seeing the impact we’ve made in Dulian, and knowing that it might inspire others, fills us with pride and gratitude. This experience has united us not only as a team but also as future doctors committed to serving communities wherever we go.

We wish Visayas State University the best of luck with the opening of their School of Medicine.
