In our time as medical students assigned to Barangay Dulian, we've witnessed firsthand the struggles that many residents face, especially those living with hypertension. The burden of high blood pressure is heavy, but for many in this marginalized community, the financial strain of maintaining their health is even heavier. With limited resources, many residents cannot afford the maintenance medications they desperately need.
But we believe that being a medical student is about more than just diagnosing and prescribing medication—it's about truly caring for the people we serve. That's why we've gone beyond the classroom and clinic or barangay health center to connect our patients with vital resources, like the La Vida Program. Offered by the Office of the Vice President, La Vida program provides medical assistance, including maintenance medications and help with medical bills, for those who need it most.
Today, we're proud to say that we've enrolled many of our hypertensive patients, along with others suffering from chronic illnesses, into the La Vida Program. We hope this will help lift some of the burdens they face and provide them with the care they deserve. Our work in Dulian has shown us the importance of not just treating patients, but empowering them to access the support they need. Together, we can help make a difference in their lives and in the future of this community.
