I Care

Just like any other barangay health center/station, Dulian Barangay health station also implemented the DOH program which is conducting the immunization and prenatal checkup routinely.

IMMUNIZATION

The Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) is one of the pioneering programs of the Department of Health (DOH). Through the program, millions of Filipino children have been from deaths and disability from vaccine-preventable diseases. Immunization has also been crucial in achieving public health milestones.

Through the years, Immunization had given us a lot of benefits;

1. It gives the Filipino children a good start at life and maintains good health as they progress to productive adults.

2. The immunization does not only save lives and prevents diseases it also reduces direct and indirect health costs.

3. Vaccines also protect children from VPDs that once were top killers and disablers worldwide. These include diphtheria, whooping cough, tuberculosis, small pox, polio and measles.

PRENATAL

For prenatal, mothers should have at least 4 prenatal check-ups (at least 1 visit during the first 3 months; at least 1 visit during the 4th to 6th months; and at least 2 visits during the 7th to 9th months). Also mother should Receive Tetanus Toxoid.

The goal of prenatal care is not only to provide the best care for the pregnant woman and the unborn child, but also to prepare the mother-to-be for the delivery of a healthy baby. During prenatal visits, tests are performed on both the mother and the baby to assess any potential risks, to treat any maternal or fetal complications, and to keep an eye on the growth and development of the fetus. In addition, counseling and guidance are provided regarding various aspects of pregnancy, including weight gain, exercise, nutrition, and overall health.

EXPERIENCES

Team Hiraya were able to do the consultation including; taking the relevant history, doing the physical examination and giving the medicine to the patient as well as getting the anthropometric measurements of the children. In prenatal checkup, the team were able to get the vitals sign of the mother, OB score, measuring the fundic height, fetal heart tone, checking for any danger sign and lastly advised those mothers for tetanus toxoid. We have also observed and learned from the district nurse about immunization techniques.

Our insight from the activity conducted was everyone present in that facility were a blessing to each other. We have learned a lot from the MHO, BNS, BHW, nurses and the whole team. We are grateful for the knowledge and skills they have imparted to us.

They say, the greatest gift and blessing to every women in their lives is them becoming a mother and same goes with them being a blessing to us as mothers in Dulian became an instrument for us to learn and be able to showcase our capabilities. And that- that makes them a big part of our success to becoming a doctor someday, which our team will forever treasure.
